When Kelli McKinney and her husband aren’t exploring national parks, she can be found sipping cinnamon tea or struggling to keep houseplants alive. She earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma and her graduate degree in radio/tv/film from the University of North Texas. She enjoyed an eclectic-yet-fulfilling career in corporate marketing before wandering off to be a writer. Now, she is a part-time title marketing specialist, assistant regional adviser for SCBWI-North Texas, and an award-winning children’s author. Kelli McKinney earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Oklahoma and her graduate degree in radio/tv/film from the University of North Texas. She enjoyed an eclectic-yet-fulfilling fifteen-year career in corporate marketing before wandering off on her own to be a freelance copywriter and try her hand at writing wholesome books for kids. Now, she is a part-time title marketing specialist, assistant regional adviser for SCBWI-North Texas, and an award-winning children’s author. Her debut middle grade novel, JEFF PENNANT’S FIELD GUIDE TO RAISING HAPPY PARENTS, received a five-star, finalist award for Preteen fiction from Readers’ Favorite, was featured in Midwest Book Reviews Children’s Bookwatch, and was nominated for a 2022 Reading the West award.
